SS17400 Martensitic precipitate hardened stainless steel is a chromium-nickel-copper precipitate hardened stainless steel for applications requiring high strength and hardness as well as moderate corrosion resistance.High strength is maintained at approximately 600 ° F (316 ° C).This alloy has the designation 630 in some standard specifications.
S17400 alloy has martensitic structure under annealing condition, further strengthened by low temperature treatment, precipitate copper phase in the alloy.In contrast to many alloys in the precipitate hardening family, THE S17400 alloy requires a simple one-step precipitate hardening heat treatment in the temperature range 900 ° F (482 ° C) to 1150 ° F (621 ° C), depending on the desired combination of strength and toughness.A variety of properties can be obtained by this one-step heat treatment.Heat treatment in the 900 ° F (482 ° C) range produces the highest strength, although slightly lower than alloys such as S17700 or S15700.The latter precipitation hardening stainless steel generally requires more steps to complete the heat treatment.
